How we work
The Rules are different in complex Environments
When an environment has become too complex, the most logical approach seems simplification. In complex dynamic environments, however, the rules are different: Even traditional simplification efforts are typically counterproductive. Why?

In a complex environment, many direct and indirect dependencies exist. Simplification implies changes. Many implications of changes cannot be foreseen. What is a simplification in one organization/area can imply lost functionality or conflicts elsewhere, requiring corrective actions. This is the beginning of a snowball effect, forcing ten different departments to recreate the functionality at a much higher total cost, increasing complexity.
Our Approach
We start from the systems level (see Home Page) and a unique level of understanding how complex systems operate. We apply the techniques that are most effective in the given situation, with specific focus on:
- Balance between the extremes
- Completeness at the system level (not to be confused with the details)
- Only non-linear/open techniques beyond the critical threshold
- Is there a simple solution that does "the trick" at a fraction of the effort/cost?
- Is the proposed solution executable at an acceptable cost and risk?
- Is the proposed solution in a position to be successful in the wider environment?
